The Consumer Protection and Business Practices Act received Royal Assent on May 15, 2013 and came into effect September 1, 2014. It updates new rules protecting consumer rights in Saskatchewan.

The Act is designed to protect consumers from unfair practices and covers a variety of marketplace activities including contracts, gift cards, warranties for consumer products, and more. This legislation updates the consumer protection framework for Saskatchewan, making the legislation more accessible and easier for consumers to understand.

Eventually, seven other consumer-related acts will be consolidated under the Act. As they are reviewed and updated, they will be proclaimed under the new Act as regulations. The acts include: The Auctioneers Act, The Charitable Fundraising Businesses Act, The Collection Agents Act, The Credit Reporting Agencies Act, The Direct Sellers Act, The Cemeteries Act and The Motor Dealers Act.
