As the temperature fluctuates this winter, make sure your insurance policy provides coverage for possible damage caused by weather related events.

Here are some helpful insurance tips to keep in mind.

1. Review your insurance policy to determine your coverage because not all policies provide the same coverage.

Contact your broker/agent if you have questions about your policy coverage.

2. Policy requirements may differ between insurance companies if you are away from your home for a period of time.

Discuss this with your agent before going away for extended periods of time.

3. When discussing policy changes with your agent/broker, ask about policy discounts.

Some companies offer policy discounts depending on specific requirements.

4. Have an inventory of your belongings.

If your home or contents are damaged, you need to prove your loss. Before the damage occurs, walk around your house with a digital camera and take photos of your belongings. Store the camera memory disc in a safe place for future reference.
